1. G. adjectival suffix attached to noun stems, corresponding to L. -alis or -inus or to Eng. -y or -like. An adjective formed with this suffix sometimes stands alone, representing a phrase from which a noun has been dropped, tympanites for tympanitēs hydrōps, drumlike swelling of the abdomen.
