1. A 2-ketoheptulose formed metabolically in the pentose monophosphate pathway as the 7-phosphate by condensation of d-xylulose 5-phosphate and d-ribose 5-phosphate, splitting out d-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate; the unphosphorylated sugar is found naturally in Sedum (stonecrop).
