General Information
Iamin gel wound dressing is a hydrogel for the dressing and management of various types of wounds, including diabetic ulcers, pressure sores, venous stasis ulcers, first and second degree burns, surgical incisions, and skin abrasions. Hydrogels belong to a group of moist wound dressings that allow a wound to retain appropriate levels of moisture while providing a barrier against outside contaminants.
Mechanism of Action
Topically-applied Iamin gel wound dressing contains a naturally occurring tripeptide complexed with copper. Copper is known to play a vital role in the action of certain enzymes in the body. One such enzyme, lysyl oxidase, is responsible for collagen formation--an essential tissue component. The inclusion of the peptide-copper compound in the gel provides a localized, readily available source of ionic copper, which allows natural healing to occur.
