1. A starch-splitting enzyme obtained from a nonpathogenic bacterium of the Bacillus subtilis class, used to treat inflammatory conditions and edema of soft tissues associated with traumatic injury; its therapeutic usefulness has not been fully established and its mode of action is not known.
