1. A dimorphic fungus that causes paracoccidioidomycosis. In tissues and on enriched culture medium at 37°C, it grows as large spherical or oval cells that bear single or several buds and usually is identified by this characteristic; at lower temperatures, it grows slowly as a white mold with minimal sporulation.
