Definition:
A flow-through device designed to be inserted directly into the extracorporeal tubing circuit. May contain membranes which permit gas and hydrogen ion exchange between the blood and microsensors, while providing a sterility barrier between the microsensors and the blood during cardiopulmonary bypass procedures.
