Catheter (2)

Definition:
A surgical item consisting of a hollow cylinder which may have features for anchoring, positioning, and is designed for insertion into a puncture or incision made by a needle or other surgical instrument. The puncturing device may be a component of the item. For items designed to be inserted through a natural opening, see CATHETER (1), (as modified) or TUBE, (as modified).
