$150,000 Grant To American College Of Phlebology Foundation Announced By Vein Clinics Of America

Main Category: Vascular

Article Date: 09 Nov 2009

Vein Clinics of America (VCA) has announced its commitment of $150,000 to the American College of Phlebology Foundation (ACPF) over the next five years. All VCA physicians specialize in phlebology, the study of venous diseases and disorders. VCA, as one of the largest network of offices in the country dedicated to the minimally invasive treatment of vein disorders, announced the grant during the American College of Phlebology's Annual Congress in Palm Desert, Calif. VCA's support will be used to advance research, education and growth in the field of phlebology and represents one of the largest contributions made to the ACP Foundation by a vein practice network.

"We are extremely proud to support the ACPF through a grant, which reflects our ongoing commitment to our physicians, all trained phlebologists, and the growing field of phlebology," said Dan Doman, CPA, president of Vein Clinics of America. "We applaud the American College of Phlebology Foundation on their efforts to continually improve the level of patient care in venous disease, something VCA physicians strive for every day in each of our vein practices."

The American College of Phlebology is the premier association for physicians and allied health professionals working in the field of phlebology. The ACP Foundation was established in 2006 with the purpose of advancing the practice of phlebology through investment. The foundation funds a number of initiatives aimed at enhancing professional education, increasing public education, and improving research in the field. Current initiatives include regional workshops and symposia for professionals, efforts to promote direct industry collaboration through open discussion forums, and information that assists patients in identifying important criteria in selecting care, as well as the funding of research grants and fellowships which aim to improve and promote research within the field of phlebology.

"We graciously acknowledge Vein Clinics of America for their generous contribution to our organization," said Bruce Sanders, CAE, executive director of the American College of Phlebology Foundation. "We are excited to work with VCA to support education and research initiatives that impact the field of phlebology."

VCA physicians believe in the importance of pursuing excellence in the treatment of vein disorders and disease. 24 clinic physicians have passed the American Board of Phlebology (ABPh) examination since the first board certification examination was held in the spring of 2008. Since 1981, VCA has been committed to furthering the advancement of research within the field of phlebology. VCA physicians are highly recognized for their published research; many have lectured and trained other doctors around the world in the field of vein treatment.

At the recent American College of Phlebology's annual meeting, VCA medical director, Theodore King, MD, presented new data on endovenous laser treatment (ELT) and regional medical director, Satish Vayuvegula, MD, presented interesting case studies during a symposium on ultrasound as specifically applied in the phlebology patient. Additionally, research from VCA physicians was recently published in International Angiologyand The Journal of Family Practice.
