Anti-Embolism Stockings

Items of footwear which are circular knitted, close-fitting elastic-type coverings for therapeutic treatment of the legs. They are designed to increase the linear velocity of blood flow in the veins by external compression of the legs. They help prevent thromboembolism by the use of graduated pressure which decreases from the instep to the thigh. They may be knee or thigh length and have transparent, open-toe, or a similar foot design to permit frequent inspection of the circularly condition. Federal Law (Public Law 94-295 May 28, 1976) restricts this device to sale by or use on the order of a physician. Excludes conventional knitted seamless elastic stockings shaped by blocking methods.
